PEPC's Next Gen Group will be meeting up at Harp & Crown for drinks after the reception. This group is an affinity group within the PEPC to support and grow the community of next generation estate planning professionals. No registration is necessary and attendees will need to purchase their own drinks and food.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
This program will provide an overview of national real estate markets given economic conditions and the state of interests rates (and how this impacts estate planning), considerations for planners when drafting business operating agreements, Discount for Lack of Control (DLOC) and Discount for Lack of Marketability (DLOM) issues, common valuation mistakes and some recent US Tax Court findings of relevance to Estate Planning.
Eric Garfield, MAI, CCIM, CRE is an Executive Managing Director within the Valuation & Advisory (V&A) Group at Cushman & Wakefield. Mr. Garfield is the firm’s US Lead for Trusts & Estates valuations. His focus is on valuation for estate planning, non-cash charitable contribution/donation and financial reporting. He has qualified as an expert witness in Superior Court and clientele include REITs, attorneys, trusts and CPAs / Auditors. Mr. Garfield’s background and experience supports the firm’s existing platform and promotes greater efficiency in valuations for estate planning, providing clients with high-quality authoritative valuations, particularly on complex assets and portfolios.
Prior to joining Cushman & Wakefield, Mr. Garfield was with Andersen Tax, LLC where he was a Managing Director and National Partner-In-Charge of Tangible Asset Valuation. He previously served as a Vice President at FMV Opinions, Inc., and began his career as a valuation specialist at KPMG LLP.
Philip Jones’ practice focuses on business valuation issues and financial consulting. He has over 20 years of experience in consulting and accounting, specializing in business valuation, financial damages for litigation, and forensic accounting. Mr. Jones has performed analyses and provided testimony for business valuation, transaction consulting, contract damages, transaction and owner disputes, as well as other fraud and forensic accounting matters. He has valued hundreds of operating entities and minority interests in entities for a variety of purposes.
He has authored reports and/or testified in partnership and transaction disputes, construction defect and delay matters, lease disputes, and forensic accounting matters, among others. He has both valued and audited entities in nearly every type of industry from construction to software. His clients have ranged in size from small closely-held businesses to large publicly-traded companies. Mr. Jones is also co-leader of the Trusts & Estates practice.
